GASPAR NARBY AN ABSENTEE

With his late 2018 tune ‘Words Of July’ turning heads back then, Gaspar Narby continues to deliver on the songwriting front with his latest cut ‘An Absentee’. Basing a full tune off of what is essentially an adapted haiku is an impressive feat, but in delivering a meditation on the connection between London and New York through WhatsApp calls, he pulls it off. Of the lyrical inspiration for the tune he says “today, we are connected like never before, which can create beautiful things, but paradoxically, I find myself feeling increasingly alone. Sometimes, the absence of someone can fill your entire existence. Their ghost just follows you everywhere. I wrote An Absentee to slow dance with my ghost”. -Dan Peeke
